Now open – AWS Asia Pacific (New Zealand) Region | Amazon Web Services
|
KIA ORA! Today I will share the general availability of the AWS Asia Pacific region (New Zealand) with three areas of availability and API name ap-southeast-6. With a new area, customers can now operate workload and safely store data in New Zealand and serve end users with even lower latency.

The new AWS Asia Pacific (New Zealand) will help organize their applications and serve end users while organizing data residence in New Zealand. The investment of NZD 7.5 billion USD Amazon Web Services (AWS) is expected to contribute to NZD $ 10.8 billion to New Zealand’s gross product (HDP), estimating to create $ 1,000 new jobs and innovate and expand faster using the safest infrastruct.
AWS in New Zealand
Since we opened our first office in New Zealand in 2013, we have been constantly expanding our infrastructure to better serve Kiwi customers:
Connection to the AWS Global Network -V 2016 AWS increased the connection of New Zealand to the global AWS infrastructure by creating divers, high -capacity underwater cable connections, which improved the reliability and network performance for customers.
Amazon cloudfront – In 2020, AWS expanded its trail of infrastructure in New Zealand by adding two Amazon Cloudfront Edge places in Auckland.
AWS local zones -For further strengthening the Infrastructure offer in New Zealand, AWS introduced the Auckland local zone in Auckland in 2023, helping customers to supply applications that require a single -digit millisecond latency.
AWS Direct Connect -In the same year, AWS also added a direct rental of ACKLAND connection to help customers securely connect their local networks with AWS, resulting in lower network costs and improving applications. With this launch of this region, AWS adds additional direct connection in Auckland.
Let’s take a look at how AWS customers use AWS skills for different needs.
Security and compliance with regulations
The New Zealand government has the first cloud policy that promotes cloud adoption across the public sector. AWS Supports 143 Security Standards and Compliance Certification, Including Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability ACT FedRamp General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-3, and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) 800-171, Helping Customers Match compliance requirements around the world and provide secure cloud infrastructure.
Matt, based in New Zealand providing infrastructure and digital confidence services to enterprises and governments, sees the benefits of the new region. Acceleration of innovation AI in New Zealand
The AWS brings the most sensible set of capacitin for generative AI in each stack layer, including the selection of the top models of large languages (LLM) for portrait of generative AI with Amazon Bedrock and the most capable generative assistant AI to transform the work.
New Zealand customers are already using the generative capacity of AI, which AWS produces.
Themestic is a New Zealand global leader in the field of intelligence and feedback analysis. The thematic uses generative AI to convert data on feedback from customers from multiple channels into curatorial, accurate and reliable intelligence of customers.
“The use of Amazon Bedrock is so incredibly easy that it makes sense. Whenever we design a solution, we test more than 10 large language models (LLM). The AWS offers these competitions constantly,” Nathan Holmberg, CTO and theme co -founder said.

Building cloud skills together
The sale of the Memorandum of Understanding (MY) with the New Zealand government in 2022 Amazon trained more than 50,000 kiwis to our goal of 100,000. Amazon undertakes to continue investing in cloud education through programs including AWS Academy, AWS Skills Builder, AWS Educate and AWS Re/Start. Organizations use AWS to expand Globalla in investing in local talents and support the growing New Zealand demand for cloud expertise.
Xero, a global platform for small businesses helps customers to overfill their business by bringing the most important tools for small businesses on one platform, including accounting, wages and payments. The use of the AWS Sense 2016 Xero has reduced its platform around the world and increased its functions and enhanced continuous innovations.
“The Amazon’s commitment to New Zealand technology industry through an investment of NZD 7.5b is promising. It is a significant voice of trust that will help combine New Zealand exporters with new global opportunities across AWS ecosystems and Amazon Network,” says Bridget Snelling Country Manager, Aotearoa New Zealand.
Sustainable digital transformation
Through the climate promise, Amazon committed itself to reaching pure zero carbon across its trade by 2040. The AWS Asie Pacific region (New Zealand) is supported by renewable energy from the first day to Agrement with Mercury New Zealand.
Energy companies use AWS to modernize operations and at the same time promote sustainability goals. Shares, wealth development platform uses AWS to modernize operations and at the same time promotes the goals of sustainability.
“The shares greatly support the storage of customer data in the country and are able to use renewable energy,” says Richard Clark, Chief Technical Director. “To do this in New Zealand on the cloud aws and let it fully powered by Mercury’s wind energy, is a huge step forward. And very exciting!”
AWS partners in New Zealand
The AWS Partner Network (APN) in New Zealand includes a growing ecosystem of consultation and technological partners who help customers of the design of all sizes, architects, building, migration and manage their work loads at AWS. AWS partners, such as Custom D, Grant Thornton Digital, Mongodb and Parallo, actively support customers to deform innovative solutions adapted to the unique needs of New Zealand in various industries. With the new region, these partners can now use the full AWS cloud services locally.
